Trip Builder

The Trip Builder is a web based travel tool that saves Priceline customers time and money by allowing them to visually plan, shop, and book unlimited trip combinations all in one place.

Originally a conceptual project only, this experience was popular enough with users and business stakeholders that it became the driving force behind Priceline’s pre-pandemic product strategy.

I worked with two Product Managers to design the core user journey, and was solely responsible for the interface design.

Results

While not developed in its entirety, the Trip Builder created a roadmap of experiments and features that were rolled out over the course of two years.

Project Highlights

Old Architecture

Priceline’s booking system only allowed users to book a single flight, hotel, or car at a time. The Vacation Package offering could combine up to one of each travel product, but did not accommodate open-jaw flights, multiple hotel locations, or part-trip rental cars.

New Architecture

With Trip Builder we proposed fundamentally altering the booking journey to allow users to add multiple flights, multiple hotels in different locations, and multiple rental cars with variable dates to a shopping cart (Trip Summary) and book them all together.
